Mid-Week Mumbling

mumble, mumble, mumble. There...you have it! It pretty much sums up the 1st couple of days of the work week. Nothing spectacular. Nothing dramatic. Pleasantly busy at work which translates into I'm almost keeping up.

At home? Sunday night I finished the first Sockotta sock. Didn't take a pic probably because I was so shocked that the Kitchener went really really well. Why didn't I take a pic the next day? Because I'm not sure where I put the sock. /shakes head. I just know it's NOT in the trash. It will turn up. 2nd sock is started. All the ribbing is done. (There's not very much)

Spinning? It gets worse and worse instead of better and better. Somewhere in my brain there is a tiny part of this process that has been misplaced. I'm hoping I dream it. When I was young, and after my Daddy's death, we moved to town. That term is being used somewhat loosely as it was a very small town. But they did have sidewalks and everyone in my class at school had skates. The kind that clamped on and you wore your skate key on a ribbon around your neck. Graceful me could not figure it out. I tried and tried. I went out really early in the morning when nobody would be there to watch and gave it my best shot. Which wasn't much. I stayed out until dark thirty...still more like someone walking on stilts. But then one night I dreamed I was skating. Fast and graceful to boot. And the next morning when I went out...I could skate! Wow! I was all over that town. Zooming up and down the sidewalks, skating with friends..skating by myself. It was just grand. I loved the sound of my wheels on the sidewalk*. So, I'm hoping that I will dream spinning. Instead of bologna sandwiches.

*When we moved to this town, nobody skated on sidewalks..they all went to the skating rink. I really couldn't skate well there and didn't like the feel of it. I had no need to go around in circles, not even backwards. For me it was about the breeze in my face and the trees going by. So the skates went by the wayside and I turned to my green Schwinn for that feeling. Sometimes I wish I could find skates like that but probably for the sake of my bones, it's best that they just live in memory.

Maybe you need to put some fleece under your pillow one night so the Spinning Fairy will sprinkle some magic spinning dust on you.
It couldn't hurt.
I remember those keys. And I never could roller skate. Even when roller disco came into vogue, I was the roller skating wall flower watching every one's drinks...

What a sweet memory! I hope you dream spinning, too. It does seem like it could be a very awkward process, needing your hands and fingers every where at the same time! I can just see you practicing and practiting on those skates, all frustrated and awkward .. and then one day you woke up, and you wear a swan on wheels! Great memory story! *hugs*

Hope all your spinning, and knitting, and all else goes really well for you!!

OMG I so know what you are talking about. I always dream the answer to my problems. Oh I so loved the sound the skates made on the sidewalk. Ahhh the innocent days of youth.
Hugs!!!

I bought one of those little thingy's for spinning awhile back too, just cause they're wood, and being BTB's wife, I like all things wood. Don't have a clue how to use it and don't have an pinch of roving to do it with, but I love looking at it. :o)
Have a great week.

Put it away for a few days and then give it another shot. Let your muscle memory take over. Really!

Dave, this morning when I made my bed, I put a bit of fleece on the night table. And yes, I'm going to try that. I remember sleeping with first kinda expensive yarn for a week or so before I started knitting with it and that worked out ok.

Sprite, apparently with spinning and skating there is something that my awake brain left out. So I'm hoping my asleep brain finds it. Today I was explaining something to a college student that is interning with us and I totally lost a work word I use a bazillion times a day. I thought for a moment and then told him that apparently that word had wandered over to the part of my brain where I store old music lyrics and as soon as it sang Born to be Wild the word would reappear. He just stared at me and then laughed. And sure enough...just a little bit later the word reappeared.

Paris I loved anything that could make me go faster..skates, bikes, motorcycles, running...those were the days! Now I'm happy to stay up on my feet LOL

Cat, I'm so hoping dreamtime brings it all back. It's not fair that I get worse instead of better LOL

Sheri, I'd offer to teach you but uhhhh. Maybe that's not such a good idea. *G* I'll be over in a bit to see what you found out. Hugs! Hope it was all good stuff.

Ok Devorah, I'll put it away except for the bit that's going to be under my pillow. Wish me luck!

Did I thank you for my gorgeous birthday present? You'll just have to have a thank you note sent to you, yanno. :D

I was so good at rollerskating! Very very good, until...

My center of gravity shifted. No longer were my legs the heaviest part of me, but the torso. It's tough to skate when you're shaped like a potato on toothpicks.

You silly..if your car ended up in the flower bed..you know where you would end up with those skates???

Susan said...

LOL Laura!! Maybe that's what happened to me. When I was a skinny kid, I was all legs. Not so anymore. :-(

Ann, I think I don't want to even imagine!

Ok, even I've updated. It's your turn, now. :D

Not sure how many of you know it, but Susan's 'puter is on the fritz! Bummer, eh? I miss her, and I even talk to her on the phone occasionally! Can't wait 'til she gets back here!

Laura said...

Whew! I was thiiiis close to calling her and making sure she was ok. I may have to call her anyway. If nothing else to let her vent about stupid computers. :D

Unknown said...

Hahahaaaa ... indeed! I would guess that by now, she has her whole house in order, or re-arranged! HA! Maybe a rebuilt kitchen?! LOL ... she says she gets a LOT done when her 'puter is sick!

She would love your call, NO doubt!!

LOL! I'd have to be mean, pretend I'm a telemarketer. Maybe a yarn salesperson. :D Buh-wa ha ha haaa!

Even better... We're driving through her town this weekend and I have her address. Show up on her doorstep, bags in hand, saying "We're here! Didn't you get my email??"

::more evil laughter::

Just checking but I see that maybe your computer is still on the fritz. Hope all is well and you're up and blogging before long, I miss hearing from you.
