Recipes

I love looking through recipes. Not only for the images they conjur up in my brain, but also it's like going through a scrapbook of portions of my life. Scribbled on the back of office memo pads; neatly written on index cards or cut from the paper; and now, printed off on the computer. Found in little specialty books. They all recall friends/foes/family..many of whom are no longer here. It used to make me sad, but now it's like the proverbial 'over the river and through the woods' Thanksgiving. Getting to remember with fondness and laughter. And in at one case, she didn't like me at all all...but gosh, she made great pumpkin bread. :-)

Sometimes there are terms that aren't widely stated anymore. And it's a good thing that none of these were written with gel pens because those accidental spills of oil or eggs would have long ago wiped out the words.

Off to do a bit of baking

My mother-in-law had many recipes like those. 'Mater of fact, I think she also had one calling for a "No. 303 can of pumpkin."

Enjoy your goodies and your memories!

Yup, some of mine look just like that! I was lucky enough to get my Great Grandmother's recipe box, full of her old recipe's and her hand written notes. I also got one of my Mother-in-Law's favorite cookbooks that she's got notes written all over. I haven't been able to look thru that one yet, it hasn't been long enough, but Nannie's is fun to look thru.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and don't eat too much turkey!

Oh I so know what you mean. Somehow I managed to come by my Mom's black Composition notebook/recipe book, that she used to keep our deli's recipes in. It has few pages but they are jammed pack with tons of memories. I was actually able to reduce the ingredients on some of the recipes and make them. Oh Memories!!!!
